Fun Size Trending Topics September 23, 2021. His Name? St. Dangerous Of Course CD929

On Tidbit Thursdays, we explore some recent stories in music news. Let’s go!

  • Fans of metal and animation can now breathe easy knowing that the Metalocolypse movie will be released after all. There were some fears over the fate of the project during HBO’s removal of adult animated shows last month, but Metalocolypse: Army of the Doomstar will be released August 22nd on DVD/Blu Ray and select streaming platforms. Deathklok also released their first new song in 10 years.
  • If you’re considering a trip to Huntington Beach, California, November is probably a great time. Darker Waves Festival was just announced, with a ton of alternative and new wave artists making up the lineup. New Order and Tears for Fears are set to headline, with DEVO, Echo and the Bunnymen, Soft Cell, The Psychedelic Furs, The Human League, Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark, The B-52’s, and many, many more! The B-52’s are wrapping up their touring careers, so it will also be one of the last chances to catch them.
  • The Postal Service have announced a live album, Everything Will Change, which will release September 8th. The album was recorded during their 2013 10th anniversary tour.
  • Blink 182 are in the news for two reasons:
    1) A fan who wouldn’t miss their show even though his stepfather is Hamish Harding, one of the people on the missing Titanic exploration submarine.
    2) Kourtney Kardashian announced to Travis Barker that she is pregnant- at a Blink 182 show and as an homage to their video for “All the Small Things.”
  • Sonic Youth will be releasing the recording of their final show on vinyl August 18th.
  • Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine released a fuzz pedal last week that has since been revealed to contain a flash drive with an exclusive song and instructions for play.
  • My Morning Jacket covered “Running Up That Hill” at Bonnaroo.
  • Trent Reznor recently revealed on Rick Rubin’s podcast that Dua Lipa’s “Levitating” brought him to tears. In the same interview, Reznor revealed that he’s now happier doing soundtracks and spending time with family. He also states “I kind of miss the attention music got, I miss the critical attention that music got. […] to send something out in the world and feel like it touched places, might’ve got a negative or positive [review], but somebody heard it, it got validated in its own way culturally. Culturally, that feels askew. Like I can’t think of any review I care about today that I even trust. I could write it before it comes out because it’s already written. In fact, ChatGPT could probably do a better job, you know? Or is currently doing the job. That makes for what I feel is a less fertile environment to put music out into — in the world of Nine Inch Nails.”

In Case You Missed It:

  • Dolly Parton just dropped two tracks from her forthcoming rock album. “Bygones” features Rob Halford of Judas Priest on vocals and Nikki Sixx and John 5 of Mötley Crüe on bass and guitar respectively. Parton also covered “Magic Man” with Ann Wilson of Heart. “Nobody can outsing Ann, but I gave it my darndest,” says Parton.
  • Geese released “I See Myself” ahead of their album 3D Country (out tomorrow).
  • Pretenders shared their new single “I Think About You Daily” featuring a string arrangement from Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead.
  • Phoenix and Beck collaborated on “Odyssey” leading up to their co-headlining tour.
