Fun Size Trending Topics September 23, 2021. His Name? St. Dangerous Of Course CD929

Baseball fans are familiar with the term “Hot Stove League.” It’s those long winter months when fans track free agent signings and so forth. Some clubs tend to be a bit more active than others. (Looking at you Reds).

Anymore this time of year has become the same for music heads. The festivals are beginning to hit with their lineups as we look ahead to the spring and summer. Today two blockbusters dropped at the exact same time. Let’s start here at home.

Sonic Temple Festival May 25-28 Historic Crew Stadium Columbus, Ohio

We last saw Sonic Temple if you can believe it almost four years ago now. The re-branded Rock On The Range got off to a great start back in 2019 and then of course we all know what happened from there. You might say they’re making up for lost time. This line up gangbusters.

Thursday

Headliners: Tool/Godsmack.

Definitely a nod to old school Rock On The Range there. Also of note for CD929 listeners opening day… Pennywise, Anti-Flag, and (wow!) Suicidal Tendencies.

Friday

Headliners: Avenged Sevenfold/Queens Of The Stone Age

A quick check of Setlist.fm indicates the Queens have played but two shows in the last five years. (Setlist.fm is a user generated site. It’s a lot of fun, but there are no doubt holes in the reporting. That said it’s real rabbit hole for music freaks.)

Saturday

Headliners: Kiss/Rob Zombie

I was stunned to see Kiss on here. They have a handful of overseas dates this year before the farewell tour ends. Unless they add some others, (always a possibility, it is Kiss after all) Sonic Temple may mark their final ever American concert appearance. Also of note to CD929 listeners…. Puscifer (Maynard from Tool’s strange side project), Rival Sons, Senses Fail, and Giovannie and the Hired Guns,

Sunday

Headliners: Foo Fighters/Deftones

We’ll get to another Foo Fighters headline below, but this could be The Foos first show with a still unknown replacement for the late Taylor Hawkins. If you ask me to predict the future however I’d guess the Foos will turn up for some club dates prior for a road test. It’s a huge get for Sonic Temple regardless. Also of note for CD929 listeners.. Sunday is our day out there at Historic Crew Stadium. The great Jawbreaker are playing. (I’m more or less dying just typing that.) Sublime With Rome, Awolnation, Grandson, White Reaper, Filter and The Bronx are also on the Sunday Funday excursion. I’m so glad our friends White Reaper are playing. They fit perfectly.

Sonic Temple passes go on sale Friday, but you can sign up for first access until 10pm tonight (January 10). Hit up their website for all the info. for all the info.

Bonnaroo June 15-18, 2023 Manchester, Tennessee

Not counting plagues and Biblical flooding, the Roo has been around for over two decades now if you can believe that. Let’s tuck into the line up just announced today.

Thursday

The first night at the Roo is usually pretty casual and really the only thing I need to tell you about it is that the notorious Nashville onslaught Diarrhea Planet are reuniting. Other than a club show in their hometown last year they have been broken up since 2018.

Friday

Headliner: Kendrick Lamar

A no brainer. Kendrick is a huge draw. Of note for CD929 listeners… Portugal The Man, Fleet Foxes, AFI (wow!), Sylvan Esso, Noah Kahan, Alex G, and Matt Maeson.

Saturday

Headliner: Odesza

The duo from Bellingham, Washington have certainly arrived. (Fun fact, they went to the same college as my little sister Hi Jenn!) Also of note for CD929 listeners… My Morning Jacket (they’ve had some epic after midnight shows on the Farm over the years) Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Sheryl Crow, Sofi Tucker, The Band Camino, Jenny Lewis, Bob Moses, Andrew McMahon & The Wilderness, and The Beths (yay!)

Sunday

Headliner: Foo Fighters

Well with this and Sonic Temple any notion that they would not carry on should be dispelled. I’ve wondered for years when they’d get the Foos on the Farm and here they are, closing the weekend. Also of note to CD929 listeners… Paramore, Marcus Mumford, The Revivalists, Pixies (nice!) Girl In Red, Peach Pit, and Franz Ferdinand (yes!)

Tickets go on sale Thursday 1/12 at 11am eastern. Like Sonic Temple Bonnaroo has a sign up button for early access. Hit up Bonnaroo.com for more.
