In December 1992, Andy (Andyman) Davis held the first Andyman-a-Thon, an on-air fundraiser that raises money for children’s charities located throughout central Ohio. Andyman was a force within the station and was beloved by his listeners—many of whom became friends. His presence (and voice) were hard to miss—he had a big personality and an even bigger heart. With three kids of his own, Andy was passionate about the work many nonprofits were doing to serve children in Central Ohio. Thus, in 1992, Andy made a leap to get on the air and stayed there for 48 hours, taking song requests in exchange for donations to support local children’s charities.
During the Andyman-a-Thon, listeners can request songs in return for making donations, and they can bid on unique and exclusive items donated from some of the biggest names in the music industry.
Andy unexpectedly passed away in 2010, yet The Andyman-a-Thon (aka The Thon) continues to be held each December to honor Andy’s legacy and commitment to supporting children in need. Since its founding, the Andyman-a-Thon has raised more than $1 million.
