Editor’s note: Just Emma here again! There might be opinions below that are mine and are not necessarily the views of the station. I just want to acknowledge my biases.

We wanna keep you posted on what’s going on in music. There’s usually quite a lot. Welcome to What’s Up Wednesdays.

Album Releases: There are a ton of albums coming out on Friday

  • D4VD is set to release his first EP, Petals to Thorns. He released a single from it last week, entitled “Don’t Forget About Me.”

  • Arlo Parks will be releasing her anticipated second album, My Soft Machine. It has been described as “very personal.” Parks says: “This record is life through my lens, through my body – the mid-20s anxiety, the substance abuse of friends around me, the viscera of being in love for the first time, navigating PTSD and grief and self-sabotage and joy, moving through worlds with wonder and sensitivity – what it’s like to be trapped in this particular body.”
  • Experimental act Wolf Eyes will be releasing Dreams in Splattered Lines.
  • The Dirty Nil are providing us with a “nastier” sound on Free Reign to Passions. The band say they didn’t sweat the small stuff: “If it sounded cool, we went with it.”
  • Matchbox 20 are back with Where the Light Goes, their first album since 2012. This one is their first album not produced by Matt Serletic, and the singles so far have displayed a very different, gentler sound. “Wild Dogs (Running in a Slow Dream)” borders on country while “Don’t Get Me Wrong” is a softer, updated version of the sound Matchbox 20 are known for.
  • Everyone’s Crushed from Water From Your Eyes drops Friday.
  • Sparks are releasing their 26th studio album, The Girl is Crying in Her Latte.
