Fun Size Trending Topics September 23, 2021. His Name? St. Dangerous Of Course CD929

We wanna keep you posted on what’s going on in music. There’s usually quite a lot. Welcome to What’s Up Wednesdays.

Album Releases: I know I said this last week, but this Friday there really are a ton of albums coming out. Literally 1,000 lbs worth.

  • Ben Folds is releasing What Matters Most. He has two Ohio concerts coming up in support of the album, one at Rose Music Center on June 17th, and another right here in Columbus on July 22nd. Check out the latest single “Back to Anonymous”:

  • Foo Fighters are releasing But Here We Are, their first album since the passing of Taylor Hawkins. We’ve been playing “Rescued” here on CD 92.9 FM, but they also released the emotional single “Show Me How” last week (featuring Violet Grohl on backing vocals).

  • Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds are releasing Council Skies. The album features contributions from Smiths’ guitarist Johnny Marr on three tracks. Gallagher describes the album as “going back to the beginning. Daydreaming, looking up at the sky and wondering about what life could be…” Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds take the stage at Riverbend Music Center on July 1st with Garbage and Metric.
  • Bully releases Lucky For You. Don’t forget to catch Bully opening up for Franz Ferdinand and The Pixies at the CD 92.9 FM Summer Kick-Off show at KEMBA Live! outdoor on June 12th.
  • Beach Fossils have released a few singles in advance of Bunny.
  • The Aces are releasing I’ve Loved You For So Long.
  • Ben Harper releases Wide Open Light.
  • Rufus Wainwright is releasing Folkocracy, a collection of folk songs with a star-studded lineup of collaborations. Wainwright turns 50 in July and has stated “This album is almost like a recorded birthday party and birthday present to myself. I just invited all the singers that I greatly admire and always wanted to sing with.” Collaborators include Brandi Carlisle, Susana Hoffs, Sheryl Crow, John Legend, Andrew Bird, David Byrne, Van Dyke Parks, and Chaka Khan (whose contribution can be found on “Cotton-Eyed Joe”).

Upcoming Events:

In case you haven’t had a chance to check out our events calendar, here are the events coming up this week:

  • The “Interwoven” event is taking place at Riffe Gallery all the way through July 7th. This event is a celebration of fiber and the many forms it takes. Artists included utilize fiber to “explore topics such as contemporary culture, personal narratives, influences, and emotions that lie just below the surface of our consciousnesses.”
