Fun Size Trending Topics September 23, 2021. His Name? St. Dangerous Of Course CD929

On Tidbit Thursdays, we explore some recent stories in music news. Let’s go!

  • The National have announced that they will be playing the full High Violet album at day one of Homecoming Festival in Cincinnati. Day two: Trouble Will Find Me.
  • A will found in Aretha Franklin’s couch has been deemed by a jury to be her final will and testament. The last five years have seen a dispute over a 2010 will found in a locked cabinet and a 2014 will found under couch cushions. Franklin’s estate was valued at $18 million.
  • Britney Spears has announced a memoir out 10/24. She had intended to release it last year, but received multiple letters from the legal teams of celebrities who feared she might expose too much.
  • Boygenius announced a fall tour (unfortunately, it comes nowhere near us) that features support from a number of greats including 100 Gecs and Palehound.
  • Japanese Breakfast and Frankie Cosmos covered “Chicago” (Sufjan Stevens) at their Chicago show this week. The Monday show was the second of two in Chicago. The first show saw them cover Wilco’s “Jesus, Etc.”
  • An 11-year-old in Iowa with a Michael McDonald obsession saw her dreams come true last week when McDonald met with her over Zoom. Paisley Gardner describes McDonald as having “the voice of an angel.”
Editor’s note: The modern-day internet is a whole new game. None of this happened to me when I was six and obsessed with Julie Andrews or nine and obsessed with The Monkees. I got an autograph from Andrews, but still! Maybe it’s because in 1997 the internet couldn’t handle downloading an image? I’ve been robbed.
  • Metric announced their new album Formentera II, a follow-up to last year’s Formentera. The album will be out on October 13th.

In Case You Missed It:

  • Chris Shiflett of Foo Fighters just released a new single from his upcoming solo album, Lost at Sea. The video is a composite of fan footage recorded during a live performance of the song.
    “Damage Control”
  • Wet Leg have remixed Depeche Mode’s “Wagging Tongue:”
    “Wagging Tongue (Wet Leg Remix)”
  • Olivia Rodrigo released a stripped-down version of her new single “Vampire.” The version of the song with only Rodrigo and the piano shows the power of the songwriting.
    “Vampire”
  • Genesis Owusu released “Tied Up!” from his album STRUGGLER (out August 18th).
    “Tied Up!”
  • A new album of material is being released by Sparklehorse despite the 2010 death of Mark Linkous. The material for the album came from an incomplete album Linkous had been working on. The first single: “The Scull of Lucia” is out now.
