On Tidbit Thursdays, we explore some recent stories in music news. Let’s go!

This week, artists across all generations and genres blessed us with new releases and brand-new information about upcoming albums to cap off 2023. 

  • As of 12:00 pm today, The Grateful Dead released a revamped demo of one of their classics: “Eyes of the World” from their original set performed in 1973. The demo is a part of their upcoming album celebrating the band’s 50th anniversary with a deluxe reissue and re-recording of some of their most celebrated classics, which is set to release in full on September 29th.

  • Yesterday Mitski released the first song from her highly-anticipated upcoming album, The Land is Inhospitable and So Are We, which releases on September 15th.

  • The Pretenders have also released a new single today called “A Love,” which is part of their upcoming studio album titled Relentless, which will release alongside Mitski’s new album on September 15th.

  • This past week, Dolly Parton released another cover song from her upcoming rock album, her first rock album inspired by her induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year. This time, she takes on Queen’s “We Are The Champions/We Will Rock You.” Rockstar will be released in full on November 17th.

  • Last week, an unexpected collaboration between two of the largest artists currently recording music, Post Malone and Noah Kahan, was released. The single, “Dial Drunk” is a remix of one of Noah’s hit singles with the same name, released on July 18th.

  • Last week, Claire Rosinkranz released her newest single “Screw Time,” which is not a part of an upcoming album but is rather a stand-alone release from her. In other news, she will also be performing live at the A&R Music Bar in Columbus on August 4th at 7 pm so be sure to grab some tickets before they sell out!

  • Yesterday, Stevie Nicks released a 2023 remaster of one of her recent hits from her 2011 album, In Your Dreams. Along with this new release, she will also be performing at the Ohio Stadium on August 5th, so if you’re a fan new or recurring, be sure to get your tickets before they sell out (if they haven’t already).

  • Last week in wake of the release of “Barbenheimer,” Matchbox Twenty re-released their popular hit “Push” with a new album cover with a white background and pink text. While not being a re-recording or remix of the original song, the band wanted to re-release the original song in light of the song being sung by one of the characters in the “Barbie” film. The b-side is a single from their newest album. Below is the Barbie soundtrack cover of “Push.”

  • Another release comes to us from the group NewJeans. They released a self-titled single a couple of weeks ago and just a couple of days ago unleashed “ASAP.”

  • Finally: Last week, artist Aiden Bissett released a new single along with a new EP titled “Sick” featuring a new song with the same name. The EP also features two other songs, titled “Bloom” and “Out Of My League” respectively. The EP release comes just ahead of a short tour he is doing in the fall.
