Fun Size Trending Topics September 23, 2021. His Name? St. Dangerous Of Course CD929

On Tidbit Thursdays, we explore some recent stories in music news. Let’s go!

  • Doja Cat ScarletOn Tuesday, Doja Cat shared the artwork for her upcoming album Scarlet (out September 22nd). Audiences quickly noticed the striking similarity between her upcoming album’s cover and that of metal group Chaver’s album Of Gloom (also out September 22nd). Both covers were designed by Dusty Ray, the person behind the previous two Chaver album covers as well. The original post made by Doja Cat revealing the album cover was taken down and a new cover image by Dusty Ray was released today (seen right).
  • In a move congruent with her climate change concerns, Billie Eilish was recently spotted flying economy rather than chartering a private flight or being sequestered in first class. This came just ahead of her second OVERHEATED climate change event in London yesterday.
  • Alex Lahey performed a moving cover of Cass Elliot’s “Make Your Own Kind of Music” for Triple J’s Like a Version, inspired by the original song’s inclusion in a trailer for Barbie.

This week’s single releases:

  • Duran Duran released “Danse Macabre,” the first single from their forthcoming album of the same name. Out October 27th, Danse Macabre (which means “dance of death”) will be a “Halloween album,” featuring original songs alongside covers of spooky-sounding songs like “Paint It Black,” “Bury a Friend,” and “Psycho Killer.”

  • The Jonas Brothers covered Switchfoot’s “The Beautiful Letdown” as part of The Beautiful Letdown (Our Version): Deluxe Edition (out September 15th). The deluxe edition of Switchfoot’s rerecorded landmark album will feature even more covers from Relient K, Tyler Joseph, Colony House, Dayglow, Owl City, and more.

  • Miley Cyrus released “Used to Be Young,” a new digital bonus track for  Endless Summer Vacation. The video shows an emotional Cyrus wearing a partially obscured Mickey Mouse shirt as she sings the heartbreaking song. Cyrus has stated that she got to sing the song to her mother, who she was live streaming with as she recorded. Adele has spoken out as a fan of the song which Cyrus said she thought of Adele whilst writing.

  • The Killers have returned with “Your Side of Town.” Despite the track’s disco sound, frontman Brandon Flowers has stated that future music will not feature a similar sound. He says that half of an album was scrapped due to the feeling that the band needed to move on from their earlier sound. Flowers told The Times UK that he feels he’s “thinking about the next phase of my life.” Despite the arena shows The Killers have played over the last couple of years, Flowers also described an interest in doing quieter music for smaller venues.
