CD102.5 Returns to Local FM Airwaves as CD92.9

After just three weeks of being off the air in Central Ohio, locally-owned alternative rock station CD102.5 has returned to a different spot on the dial: CD92.9FM. The station went online-only on November 1st after failing to reach an agreement with the owner of the FCC license.

“We are ecstatic to get back to the business of independent radio where we belong on the FM – and now AM – dial,” said station owner Randy Malloy. “Big corporate radio is slashing staff by the thousands across the United States, and we are proud to continue to offer live, independently operated radio and continue our commitment to local businesses, local artists, and the entire Columbus community.”

Effective yesterday, November 21st, broadcasts have resumed operations at 92.9FM, which have antennas in Downtown Columbus and in Delaware, Ohio. They also broadcast at 1580 and 1550 on AM radio, and the Delaware signal is expected to go on-air in January to expand the reach.

The move is the second for the alternative rock station, which began as CD101 at 101.FM in 1990, before relocating and rebranding to CD102.5 at 102.5FM in 2010.

“Independent radio is important to music culture in the United States because it provides a way for bands and musicians who haven’t been signed to a major label to have their music heard by a broad audience,” added Malloy. “Independent radio means the best live DJs in real-time, who live in our city – not pre-recorded talk, streamed in from another place.
