On Tidbit Thursdays, we explore some recent stories in music news. Let’s go!

• Courtney Love appeared on the podcast 60 Songs that Explain the ’90s, and shared some of Kurt Cobain’s early draft lyrics to “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”
• In other Nirvana news, recording engineer Steve Albini recently spoke with NME about his career, in particular his work on In Utero. After the band’s massive success with Nevermind, Albini says Nirvana wanted a more isolated place to record the next album, without being harassed by fans and reporters. They traveled to an independent studio 50 miles from Minneapolis where Albini booked sessions for Nirvana using the pseudonym “Simon Ritchie Band.”
• Oasis’ Noel Gallagher spoke with Big Issue as part of their “Letter to My Younger Self” series. He touched on topics like his dynamic with Blur’s Damon Albarn, his childhood and teenage years in Manchester, and how he believes music is “middle-class” now (in his opinion, keeping out poorer folks due to the cost of instruments).
• Noel Gallagher also appeared on talkSPORT this week and talked about an Oasis reunion, calling out his brother Liam on his refusal to speak with him. Liam fired back on Twitter: “I don’t wish AIDS on people I turn up and play the MUSIC for the people of MANCHESTER who have just had a terror attack while you sit on your dingy sipping champagne and you got the audacity to call me a COWARD sit down you [bell] end.”
• The Foo Fighters announced Josh Freese as their new drummer.
• Cindy Wilson of The B-52’s told SPIN that she’s planning her second solo album as the band move toward retirement from touring.

• Rainbow Kitten Surprise have canceled their 2023 tour in order to deal with medical issues. They posted the news on Facebook, stating “One of our members is in a medical crisis. To make sure they have the time to get the proper treatment, we have decided to take down the entire year of shows and turn off the lights for now. We do not make this decision lightly, and we know that it will result in a lot of disappointment and concern, but we are a family, and we know that the most important thing we can do right now is to help get everyone healthy.”
• We here at the station and those around the world mourn the loss of Andy Rourke, former bassist for The Smiths who passed away Friday. Morrissey and former Smiths drummer Mike Joyce have both made statements, while Johnny Marr (who met Rourke when they were 11) wrote an extended emotional statement on Instagram.
• Tina Turner passed away yesterday at the age of 83. She has been suffering from many health issues since 2013.

In Case You Missed It:

• The Cure have reportedly been playing a number of new songs on their North American tour and at least one of them, “Another Happy Birthday” has made its way online. “Another Happy Birthday” was mentioned by Robert Smith during a 1997 interview and is presumed to have existed as an unreleased demo prior to this first known public performance.

• Blur announced their first album in eight years. It will be titled The Ballad of Darren and is slated for July 21st release. Damon Albarn wrote the majority of the album while on tour with Gorillaz. Albarn described it to SPIN as “an aftershock record – [a] reflection and comment on where we find ourselves now.” Guitarist Graham Coxon added: “The older and madder we get, it becomes more essential that what we play is loaded with the right emotion and intention. Sometimes just a riff doesn’t do the job.” Check out the new single, “The Narcissist” below (or hear it on CD 92.9 FM of course!).
