6/1/23: The 5 Spot

Do you ever forget to tune in to The 5 Spot? Or maybe you have to go into a dumb store or answer a dumb phone call while Grayson is still spinning themed tunes. How are you gonna know what songs he played? How are you going to know what the theme was? We finally have your solution. After The 5 Spot airs, we will update you with a quick recap of what was played and why.

Adam Latek is in for Grayson this week, and today he played a Five Spot of TV theme songs.

5) “Next Year” by Foo Fighters
The theme song for Ed. during seasons 1, 3, and four was this beloved Foo Fighters song.

4) “Bad Reputation” by Joan Jett
Freaks and Geeks featured a soundtrack loaded with classic rock. The theme song was no exception.

3) “Cleveland Rocks” by The Presidents of the United States of America
The Presidents of the United States of America covered this Ian Hunter song just for the theme song to The Drew Carey Show, and it became iconic.

2) “Boss of Me” by They Might Be Giants 
There’s a whole list of shows for which They Might Be Giants have provided the theme song. The most famous, most recognizable (and most likely to be the song your non-TMBG friend actually knows) has to be “Boss of Me” from Malcolm in the Middle (even though their cover of “Dog on Fire” was in use as the theme for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart for much longer).

1) “Woke Up This Morning” by A3
British band A3 (known as Alabama 3 in their home country) had the “Chosen One” remix of their song “Woke Up This Morning” become the theme to the American series The Sopranos.

BONUS TRACK: “In the Street” by Big Star
“In the Street” was covered by Todd Griffin for the season one theme song to That 70s Show, and again by Cheap Trick as the season 2 theme song.
