We’re hosting a holiday dinner here at CD 92.9 FM. I asked everyone to bring their favorite seasonal dish and a delicious song pairing. Here’s what we’re serving up:
Randy has the hard liquors and starts the music with “Alcohol” from local favorites Howlin Maggie. Mike joins the fray soon, bringing with him Christmas ale and “Dizzy” by Jimmy Eat World.
DJ Nate has dinner rolls and “It’s Only Rock and Roll” by The Rolling Stones. Adam Latek brings some potatoes and “Hot Potatoes” by The Kinks. He wanted to bring corn, but not Korn. Brady enters with pork and beans and “Pork and Beans” by Weezer, even though Brady and Rivers Cuomo are both vegetarians. How awkward! Kelsey has also brought potatoes, but hers are mashed. I guess it’s a far cry from Adam’s “plain hot potatoes.” She paired them with “Lazy Confessions” by The Moldy Peaches. After all, as both Kelsey and Kimya Dawson say “I like potatoes.”
The starch just keeps on coming when Brian shows up with macaroni and cheese and “Cheese Alarm” by Robyn Hitchcock. Laura Lee mixes it up a bit with some cranberry sauce and “Salvation” by The Cranberries. Grayson has cooked up a green bean casserole with extra fried onions and is ready to cue up “Making Breakfast” by Twin Peaks. Just Emma rolls in with a stuffed pumpkin and “Pumpkin” by The Regrettes. She claims it’s one of her specialties…
The promotions team decided to do the most. NaTaysia brought a whole spread just by herself, with a “big ol’ bowl” of collard greens, fish, cornbread, and pasta salad. Even her song pairing is a meal: “Cornbread, Fish & Collard Greens” by Anthony Hamilton. Kenzie then appears with a turkey half as big as she is and the song “Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)” by Pink Floyd. “How can you have any pudding if you don’t eat your meat?” she posits. Fortunately, Bailey brought some stuffing for that turkey and “Alice’s Restaurant” by Arlo Guthrie.
Desserts begin to arrive as Corndawg enters with a pecan pie and “Sugar Land” by Timber Timbre. A health-conscious Mark follows him in with a cheesecake along with “People Who Died” by Jim Carrol. Cheesecakes are very high in cholesterol, after all. Being the late-night guy that he is, Tom Butler arrives last and is both proud and shocked to learn that he’s the only one who’s brought pumpkin pie (and “Quiet” by The Smashing Pumpkins).
Let’s dig in!
